你第一次说话时,对方先听到我们的开场白(约 15 秒):「This is MeiSheng Technology's AI interpreter. Press 9, or call 888-365-0754, to stop our calls. This call is recorded and transmitted to a service provider for transcription. Hang up if you object.」
你第一次說話時,對方先聽到我們的開場白(約 15 秒):「This is MeiSheng Technology's AI interpreter. Press 9, or call 888-365-0754, to stop our calls. This call is recorded and transmitted to a service provider for transcription. Hang up if you object.」

Overview
MeiSheng Call (美声翻译电话) is an iPhone app made by MEISHENG TECHNOLOGY, a California corporation ("we" or "us"). It helps people who speak Chinese make phone calls in English. You speak Chinese. An AI voice says it in English to the person you call. You hear that person's own voice and see captions in Chinese and English.
This policy explains what data MeiSheng Call collects, why, which companies take part in processing it, and how long it is kept. It covers people who use the app and people who receive calls made with the app.
You sign in to MeiSheng Call with a Meisheng Account. Your email, phone number, password and sign-in records are kept by our account center and covered by the Meisheng Account Privacy Policy. This policy does not repeat that.
The short version:
We do not save audio recordings of calls.
We keep the written transcript of each call on our server for 30 days, so you can read it again. You can delete it sooner.
When you write a text message in MeiSheng Call, we translate your Chinese into English (or English you paste in into Chinese) and do not keep it. You send the text yourself from the iPhone Messages app; we do not send it for you.
If you allow it, the app reads your phone's contacts on your phone to pick numbers and show names. Only if you tap Allow in New Friends are the phone numbers of the contacts you share uploaded, to see who also uses MeiSheng Call; they are not kept after the comparison.
Service providers turn speech into text, translate it, and speak the English. Each one is listed below, with what it gets, how it uses it, and how long it keeps it.
We do not use call content to train AI models. Under the settings we chose, our speech-recognition, translation and voice providers do not use it for training either. But Twilio, which connects the calls, says in its terms that it may use call content, including voice, for some purposes of its own, such as training models to stop abuse. See "Service providers" below.
No ads. No cross-app tracking. We do not sell personal information or share it for targeted ads.
How a call works
Before your first call, the app explains how calls work and asks you to agree. Before you can make calls (including calls to other MeiSheng Call users), you need to add a U.S. phone number (the number of your phone's SIM) to your Meisheng Account and confirm it is yours with a text-message code; calls to MeiSheng Call's own test and practice lines do not need this. Each account has limits on calls to outside phone numbers: 5 calls per 10 minutes, 30 calls a day, and at most 15 different numbers a day (a day is counted in Pacific Time; calls between MeiSheng Call users, calls to our test and practice lines, and calls you receive do not count).
When you dial, our server uses Twilio to check what kind of line the number is (except when you call a toll-free number, or an organization's number from our list, in Institution Interpreter Mode). We do not use AI interpreting to call mobile phones, toll-free numbers, pay-per-call numbers or emergency lines, and we do not call numbers on our do-not-call list or some other kinds of numbers. Toll-free numbers (such as 800 numbers) can be called only in Institution Interpreter Mode, described below. Each landline number can get at most 3 calls with our AI voice in any 30 days, counting all users together. During testing, a few of our company's internal test accounts are not limited by the mobile-phone rule (they too can call toll-free numbers only in Institution Interpreter Mode); numbers on our do-not-call list, pay-per-call numbers and emergency lines are still blocked.
When the call is answered, we do not try to decide whether a person or a machine answered (Twilio's guess is only noted in the call record and does not change how the call goes); you decide when to speak. Until you speak for the first time, no AI voice plays on the line, and the other side's voice is not sent to any cloud service. From the moment the call is answered until the opening message has finished, we listen for a voicemail beep (we look only at the tone of the sound, not at any words). If we hear one, we stop, hang up automatically and tell you in the app, so we do not leave a voicemail message. If a voicemail greeting has no beep and you speak because you think a person answered, the opening message may be recorded in the voicemail; it includes our toll-free do-not-call line, and that call counts toward the 3 calls in 30 days above.
The first time you speak, the other person first hears our opening message (about 15 seconds): "This is MeiSheng Technology's AI interpreter. Press 9, or call 888-365-0754, to stop our calls. This call is recorded and transmitted to a service provider for transcription. Hang up if you object." If they press 9, the call ends and their number goes on our do-not-call list. They can also call our toll-free do-not-call line, 1-888-365-0754, at any time (automated, not recorded). We keep our copy of the transcript for 30 days.
If you have turned on On-Device Captions yourself (off by default; you can turn it on in Settings or tap Turn On when the app asks), then after the other person answers and before they have heard the opening message, what they say is transcribed and translated into Chinese only on your iPhone, using the iPhone's built-in on-device speech recognition and offline translation. It is not uploaded, not saved, and not added to your call history, and we do not receive it. Only the last minute stays on screen, and it is cleared as soon as you hang up, leave the app, lock the phone, or start a screen recording. If your phone cannot recognize or translate on the device, there are no captions during this time. Apple says its on-device recognition and translation may collect usage data such as which languages are used, not the conversation itself. During this time the other person's voice is not sent to any cloud recognition service. We do not claim that these captions can never count as a "recording" under every state's law.
The first time you press to talk (or type, or tap a quick phrase), the opening message plays to the other person. Only after they have heard it is their voice sent to a service provider for transcription; we keep the transcript for 30 days. If the other person talks over the opening message, it stops and does not replay on its own; it plays again from the start the next time you speak.
Only after the message has finished, and the person is still on the line, do we start turning their speech into text.
If you mark a call as medical or insurance, after the message the other person hears: "If you agree to continue with transcription and interpretation, please press 1. Otherwise, please hang up." If they do not press 1, the call ends and nothing they said is transcribed.
If the call is transferred and a new person comes on the line, the whole message plays again for that person before we transcribe what they say.
If the other person clearly does not understand English, you can tap the button for that in the app (对方听不懂英语,挂断). This stops transcription and ends the call.
During the call, you hold the Talk button and speak Chinese. We send your voice for speech recognition only while you hold the button. The other side never hears your own voice. They hear only the English AI voice and key tones.
When the other person asks for your name, date of birth, phone number, address or insurance member ID (or those of the family member you're calling for) and it's in My Info, the app asks you on screen whether to tell them, showing whose details it will say, every time. It is said only if you tap Allow (see "My Info" below). Our server gives Google's Gemini only what the other person said (this sentence and their previous one), to tell whether they're asking for one of these items; what you said and your details are not included. While it plays, what the other person says isn't transcribed or translated.
After the call, the app shows the transcript. For 30 days you can read it again under Recents in the app, and you can delete it at any time. The transcript is kept only on our server, not separately on your phone. You can replay the English spoken for you; that audio stays only on your phone and is deleted when you leave that screen.
Institution Interpreter Mode (toll-free numbers and some organizations)
For toll-free numbers such as 800 and 888 numbers (and for organizations that say they will not talk with AI), MeiSheng Call uses Institution Interpreter Mode; for some organizations' numbers on our list, you can also choose this mode (AI interpreting is still the default); Chinese-language lines on our list use only this mode, and you simply speak Chinese once connected. In this mode, no AI speaks for you, and once a person answers, you ask the other side for their own interpreter. It is currently open only to invited team members for testing; until it opens, other users cannot call toll-free numbers.
Institution Interpreter Mode connects you, only after you tap Call, to the one number you entered or picked that time. The only things on the line are your own voice and the keys you press. We do not play an opening message, translations, or any synthetic or recorded voice.
While the other side plays a phone menu, the app can show you, on your phone, the "press a number" prompts translated into Chinese. This text stays only in your phone's memory; it is not saved on the phone, uploaded, or written to our logs. When a person answers, or when you tap "A person answered", it stops and is cleared.
After a person answers, we do not transcribe, translate or record anything, on your phone or on our server. These calls have no transcript.
We keep only the call time, the number called, the length of the call, why it ended, and a record of key presses. For keys you type on the keypad, such as account numbers, Social Security numbers, card numbers or passwords, we record only how many keys you pressed, not which ones.
The other side sees MeiSheng Call's platform number as the caller ID, not your phone number. Our do-not-call list still applies.
What we collect
Your voice during calls. It goes from your phone through Twilio to our server and, while you hold Talk, to our speech-recognition provider. We do not save recordings.
The other side's voice. It goes through Twilio to our server and, after our opening message (and, on medical or insurance calls, after they press 1), to our speech-recognition provider. We do not save recordings.
Transcripts. The Chinese and English text of what both sides said, including anything you type. If they come up in the call, a transcript can include names, dates, addresses, account numbers, and health or insurance information. Details from My Info that we say for you appear only as a placeholder like "[date of birth]" (anything the other person repeats back is transcribed as usual), and nine-digit numbers that look like Social Security numbers are masked for both sides. For any stretch when something went wrong on our side, the transcript says only that interpreting failed and nothing was recorded.
Numbers you call. The number, the line type Twilio reports (for example, landline or mobile), and when we checked.
Call records. Your MeiSheng Call user number, the number called, when the call was placed, answered and ended, minutes used, cost, why the call ended, and timing data we use to measure delay.
Consent records. For each call: which version of the opening message played, when it started and finished, whether it was replayed, Twilio's ID for the call, the number called, whether the other side pressed 1 or 9, and the line-type check. Consent records contain no conversation text.
Family consent records. When you ask a family member to agree that you may discuss their health on calls, we record your account, their phone number and the name they give, which version of the consent page they saw, when they confirmed they are 18 or older, when they gave each of the two consents, when they withdrew, and when you deleted your data, if you did. No conversation text. For the verification texts we send them, see the Meisheng Account privacy notice.
Voice and language choice. The gender you pick in My Info (male or female), used only to choose whether the other person hears a male or female AI voice and not shown to anyone (female if you have not picked one). It is stored on our server: the server keeps your latest choice to pick the voice for calls you make and for calls to you; a copy stays on this phone and is restored from the server on a new phone or when you sign in again; when you delete your MeiSheng Call data, it goes back to the default (female) on the server and is cleared from the phone. Also the language you pick (Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese for Taiwan or Hong Kong, or English), which decides the language the app shows and translates into; and, when the app is in Chinese, whether you speak Mandarin or Cantonese, which decides the speech recognition and voice used.
Muted chats. Which chats you have muted (recorded as the other person's phone number or MeiSheng Call account), used only so we do not send you notifications for them. Deleted when you delete your MeiSheng Call data.
App icon badge count. How many texts and MeiSheng Chat messages you have not read yet (muted chats and voicemails are not counted; a chat you have marked as unread counts as 1). The app reports this number to our server; when a new text or message arrives, the server adds 1 and sends the number with the notification through Apple's push notification service, and it appears on the app icon (only if you allow Badges for MeiSheng Call in iPhone Settings). It is only a number and does not say which messages they are or who sent them. Deleted when you delete your MeiSheng Call data.
IP address. When you sign in, send a message (including one that is not delivered because the other person has blocked you), send a photo or voice message, or make a report, we record your IP address, port and the time, linked to your Meisheng Account, and use them only to prevent abuse, handle reports, make reports the law requires, and respond to lawful requests from law enforcement. We keep them for 90 days, even if you delete your MeiSheng Call data or Meisheng Account in the meantime; records included in a report to NCMEC are kept with that case for 1 year.
Device information. Your iPhone model, iOS version, and whether Apple Intelligence is available on it. We use this only to count how many users could use the iPhone's built-in call translation.
Emergency (911) address. The address you register in Settings (street and number, apartment or unit, city, state and ZIP code), and which version of the 911 notice you confirmed and when. When MeiSheng Call connects 911 calls itself in the future, it will be used to tell the emergency call center where to find you; for now, 911 calls are handed to your iPhone's own Phone app and this address is not used. You can fill it in from your phone's current location: the location is turned into an address on your phone using Apple's map service and is not sent to us. When you type in Street Address, what you type is sent to Apple's map service to look up suggested addresses, together with a rough area so nearby addresses come first: where your phone is now if you've allowed location, or otherwise the state of your phone number's area code. None of this is sent to our server, and the app doesn't ask for location permission for this. You can change the address at any time; it is deleted when you delete your MeiSheng Call data or your Meisheng Account.
Profile photo, name and MeiSheng ID. The photo, name and MeiSheng ID you set are stored in your Meisheng Account (shared by the Meisheng apps; see the Meisheng Account Privacy Policy); MeiSheng Call's server keeps them only briefly in memory (usually 10 minutes, at most 1 day if the account center cannot answer) and stores no copy. When you upload a photo, it is redrawn at 512×512 with location and other photo data removed, and sent to Google's Gemini to check automatically for sexual, violent or other unacceptable content (not kept and not used for training); names and MeiSheng IDs are checked the same way when you change them. You can change the MeiSheng ID assigned at sign-up at any time the first time, and after that once every 365 days. Who can see them in MeiSheng Call: your name and MeiSheng ID can be seen by people who find you by phone number, MeiSheng ID or your QR code, people you message, and people you are chatting with; your photo can be seen only by people you have been connected with on a call, have exchanged messages with or are friends with, and, while a friend request you sent is pending, by the person you sent it to (a stranger cannot see it until you accept or reply). There is no public directory, and we do not give anyone your phone number. If you block someone, or someone blocks you, neither of you sees the other's name or photo; only the MeiSheng ID stays in the block list so you can tell who it is. Other people's photos are cached on your phone, are not included in phone backups, and are cleared when you sign out or delete your MeiSheng Call data. Deleting your MeiSheng Call data does not delete your photo, name or MeiSheng ID; deleting your whole Meisheng Account does.
Account link. Your Meisheng Account number and the sign-in token MeiSheng Call gives your phone. MeiSheng Call's server does not store your email, password or phone number; it only records whether your phone number has been verified (for the record kept for 90 days after deletion, see "Deleting your data").
Invitation. Which invitation code you used. Once someone on a phone has used a code, we store a scrambled (hashed) form of that phone's Meisheng device ID, a random number shared by the Meisheng apps on the phone, so other accounts on the same phone do not need a code.
Referrals. Your referral code; the one-time link created each time you share, when you sent it, and which account used it; whose referral code you entered, and the name you chose to show the person who referred you (optional); records of rewards given, expired and taken back; and scrambled (hashed) forms of the phone number and device ID, used to stop abuse. The phone number hash is computed by the Meisheng Account center with a key used only for MeiSheng Call, which stays in the account center, and passed to us together with a yes/no on whether the number is a real mobile number (the account center checks this with Twilio's line-type lookup); we never receive the number itself, and the same number gives a different hash in other Meisheng apps. When deciding a referral reward, we send the number you called to the account center, which only tells us whether it is the referrer's phone number; the account center does not keep that number or write it to its logs. Any note you add when you share stays on your phone and is not sent to us; picking a contact to recommend MeiSheng Call by text also happens only on your phone (see "Contacts" below). The person who referred you sees only that you signed up, whether their reward arrived after your first real call, and the name you chose; they cannot see your phone number, who you call, or how many minutes you use.
QR code card. Your QR code holds a random link (meisheng.us/call/add/…) and does not contain your phone number. We do not store the link itself, only a hash of it and a random number; our server uses its own key to work the QR code out again from that random number, to tell whose QR code it is (the database alone is not enough to work out the link); you can reset it at any time, and the old one stops working right away. When someone scans your QR code, they first see your name and MeiSheng ID; tapping Add Friend makes you friends at once (Require Approval to Add Me is off by default; if you've turned it on, it sends you a friend request and you become friends only after you accept; if you've turned off QR Code, scanning can't add you): then you can message each other and each see the other's name, MeiSheng ID and photo (people who were already added by QR code before this change stay friends). Friend requests record whether they were sent by scanning a QR code, to prevent abuse: scanning, tapping Add and messaging someone new together allow at most 20 new contacts per person in 24 hours; this is deleted when you delete your MeiSheng Call data or your Meisheng Account. The web page that opens for someone without MeiSheng Call does not show your name, MeiSheng ID or photo; after the app is on the App Store, if you can share a referral code, it shows your referral code. Adding friends by QR code, like MeiSheng Chat, is currently open only to invited team members.
Minute totals. Minutes you can still use today, and minutes used this month and in total, worked out from your call records and shown only to you in the app. Your minute balance and each change to it (including minutes restored after a problem on our side) stay with your account and are not deleted when you delete your MeiSheng Call data.
Refund requests. When you delete your whole account, you can ask for a refund of the unused share of minutes you bought. When you ask, we send a code to your phone number to confirm it's you. Once you submit, your account is deleted right away and the refund is handled separately. You choose how to be paid: the phone number or email linked to your Zelle, or a name and address for a mailed check; you also give a contact email, used only to reply about this refund. These pass through MeiSheng Call's server to our company's refund record; the server doesn't keep them or write them to logs. They are deleted as soon as the refund is made or we have replied, and may stay up to 35 more days in our company database backups. To complete the refund and for our accounting and taxes, we keep a separate refund record that is not linked to your account (a random ID, Apple's transaction ID, the minutes, amount, date and method, and whether it was refunded). Your bank's records of the payment are kept under the bank's rules.
Messages between MeiSheng Call users (MeiSheng Chat). Currently open only to invited team members for testing. A message you send to another MeiSheng Call user goes through our server, not through carrier text messaging. Messages are end-to-end encrypted: while stored and in transit, only your phone and the other person's phone can open them. Our server only relays ciphertext it cannot read, and deletes it once the other person's phone confirms receipt; if a message is never delivered, it is deleted within 7 days; this ciphertext is not included in our server backups. Photos and voice messages (strangers cannot send them: they can be sent only after both of you have sent messages, or after one of you tapped Accept or accepted a friend request; someone who became your friend without approval can't send them until you reply) are end-to-end encrypted too. Your phone compresses each photo and removes location and camera details, then encrypts each photo or voice message with its own random key, which travels inside the encrypted message. Our server stores only ciphertext it cannot read, deletes it once the other person's phone downloads it, and deletes it within 7 days if it is never downloaded; it is not included in our server backups. A voice message is turned into text on the sender's phone by the iPhone's built-in on-device speech recognition, and the audio is not uploaded; if the sender's phone could not produce the text, the recipient's phone transcribes it on the device and keeps the result only on that phone. If you use different languages, that text passes through our server and Google's Gemini for translation, like a text message, and is not kept; if Gemini is unavailable or the daily limit has been reached, the iPhone's built-in on-device translation is used instead (only for languages already downloaded to the phone), and otherwise only the original is sent. When you hold the input box to dictate, speech is also recognized only on your phone and the audio is not uploaded. We do not send photos to any AI for checking, and we do not match photos against any database. Photos and voice messages you send and receive are stored on your phone and go with your phone's backup (which makes your iCloud backup larger); you can also save photos to your photo library. If you have turned on Sensitive Content Warning in iPhone Settings, your iPhone may blur photos that might contain nudity; that check happens only on your phone and is not sent to us. If you use different languages, the text you write passes through our server and Google's Gemini (in the U.S.) only while being translated, before it is encrypted and sent; it is not kept or written to logs. For messages in the same language, our server handles only ciphertext. What our server can see and keeps: who sent to whom, when, how large the ciphertext is, and whether an attachment is a photo or a voice message; and, for each phone, the public keys other people use to set up encrypted sessions with it (one signing public key and a batch of one-time public keys) and a random device ID (an account sends and receives encrypted messages on one phone at a time). Encryption keys stay on the phone and are not included in iCloud backup; decrypted chat history is kept only on the two phones and goes with your phone's backup. If you use iCloud Backup, your chat history is also in that backup, which Apple holds; if you turn on Apple's Advanced Data Protection, Apple cannot read it either. After you switch phones, messages already received stay on the old phone. Your safety code changes, and people you have chatted with can see the new one in the chat's info. We don't notify them; only if they have turned on Show Security Notifications in Settings › Privacy (off by default) does a line saying your safety code changed appear in the chat. Records without content: delivery receipts (only an ID and a time, deleted once your phone gets them, and within 30 days at most); who you have been in touch with (both accounts, whether you know each other — have sent, replied, tapped Accept or called each other — how many messages a stranger has sent, and when you first got in touch), used to enforce the 3-message limit for strangers and the limit of 20 new contacts a day; how many messages and attachments you send each day and how large the attachments are in total, to prevent bulk messaging and limit usage; and who you have blocked (recorded by their Meisheng Account, so a block still applies if they delete their MeiSheng Call data and come back). Finding people: you can find someone by phone number or MeiSheng ID. For a phone number, we send that one number to the Meisheng Account center to ask whether it belongs to a MeiSheng Call user who can be found; for a MeiSheng ID, the other person must have "MeiSheng ID" turned on in Ways to Add Me. The numbers and IDs you look up are not stored or written to logs; to prevent bulk lookups, each person can look up at most 30 an hour, and the account center has its own limit of 50 a day. Finding friends from your contacts: after you read the explanation in New Friends and tap Allow, and your iPhone lets the app read your contacts, the app sends us, encrypted, the phone numbers of the contacts you share on your iPhone; only the numbers are uploaded, not names, emails or photos. We pass them to the Meisheng Account center, which compares them in memory using its own key and tells us only which of those numbers belong to MeiSheng Call users who allow others to find them. We don't keep these numbers or write them to logs, and we create no record for people who aren't our users. The results go back only to your phone and include only the accounts, not names or photos; the name shown is the one saved in your contacts. You must verify your own phone number to use this. When you open New Friends, we compare again if your contacts changed or it has been more than 7 days; at most one round a day, so a large address book may take a few days; there are daily limits on how often and how many numbers, and the counting that prevents bulk lookups is done by the account center (see the Meisheng Account Privacy Policy). Each comparison is verified with the iPhone's App Attest to show the request comes from our app; for that we keep one public key and a hash of the device ID for your phone, deleted when you delete your MeiSheng Call data. We ourselves keep only daily totals of how many numbers were received, compared and matched (not who, which phone or which numbers), for 90 days. The results are stored on your phone, not in iCloud backup, and are deleted when you turn this off or delete your MeiSheng Call data, but not when you sign out. You can turn off "Find Friends from Contacts" in Settings; then we stop comparing and the results on your phone are cleared. We never notify anyone that "your contact joined". Friend Permissions in Settings: "Require Approval to Add Me" is off by default. While it's off, anyone who finds you becomes your friend as soon as they add you (there's no notification; they're listed in New Friends for 30 days), and until you reply (sending them a message, or a call from them that you answer, counts as replying) they can send only text, not photos or voice messages. If you turn it on, people who want to add you send a friend request and become your friend only if you accept; if you later turn it off again, requests that already arrived still wait for you. "Ways to Add Me" has three items, Phone number, MeiSheng ID and QR Code, all on by default and kept by the Meisheng Account center (QR Code is kept by MeiSheng Call): turn one off and people can't use that way to find or add you; with all three off, people can't add you until you add them first. Friend requests: you can send a friend request to someone you find, with a short note (up to 50 characters). The note is not encrypted: it is stored in plain text on our server, only the other person can see it, and it is not written to logs or put in notifications. It is deleted as soon as they accept or ignore the request (replying to you, accepting your messages, adding you back or starting a group chat with you also counts as accepting); unhandled requests and their notes are deleted within 30 days of being sent, unless the note is reported (a reported note is copied into the report and handled under the report rules). For a handled request we keep only who sent it to whom, when and the result, until either of you deletes your MeiSheng Call data or account; if either of you deletes your data or account or blocks the other, the requests between you are deleted. While a request is pending, the person you sent it to can see your photo; you can't see theirs until they accept. Requests from someone the person has blocked are kept without the note and don't trigger a notification. Reports: when you report messages, after you confirm, your phone decrypts those messages and sends them (text, time and sender) with your report, together with a "message franking" proof we use to verify that the other person really sent them at that time; apart from messages you report, we cannot see message content; we pass the report to our company for handling, and once passed on the content is deleted from MeiSheng Call's server (backups may keep it for up to 30 more days), keeping only who reported whom and when. In our company's record of the report, the message content is kept for 1 year after the report is handled and then deleted automatically (database backups may keep it for up to 30 more days); who reported whom, when, and how it was handled are kept separately. When you report someone's photo, name or MeiSheng ID, the report goes to the Meisheng Account center with your account and the reason you give (see the Meisheng Account Privacy Policy for how long it is kept). Child sexual exploitation: if we find content that appears to be child sexual exploitation (including enticement of a minor or sex trafficking), we preserve the related messages, photos and account information (including IP records) separately in encrypted form that only our designated person can access, report it to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) as the law requires (NCMEC passes reports to law enforcement), and close the account, including the same Meisheng Account, without giving a reason. We keep these materials for 1 year from the report and then delete them, unless law enforcement lawfully asks us to keep them longer. We do not weaken encryption in order to see content. Our logs record only who sent a message to whom, when, and how large it was, not its content, names or phone numbers.
Messages you send us. Emails to support@meishengcall.com and messages left on our company line.
We do not collect your location (for filling in the 911 address from it, see above), we do not upload the names, emails or photos in your contacts (phone numbers are uploaded for comparison only if you allow "Find Friends from Contacts"; see above), and we do not collect Social Security or credit card numbers.
Data that stays on your phone
Playback of your English. So you can replay your own sentences, the app keeps their English audio in memory or a temporary file on your phone. It is deleted when you leave the call details screen shown after the call. It is never uploaded, and our server does not keep it.
My Info. My Info has two parts. Part one, "Stored on our servers": your phone number is the one you sign in with and is kept in your Meisheng account; your virtual phone number is kept on MeiSheng Call's servers; for gender, see "Voice and language choice" below. Part two, "Stored only on this iPhone": the name in English, date of birth, addresses and insurance member ID you save, and the family details you enter (what you call them, name in English, date of birth, phone number, address and insurance member ID), are kept in this phone's Keychain, separately for each account, and are never uploaded to our servers. If iCloud Keychain is on, they sync through your Apple Account to your other Apple devices; Apple encrypts them end to end, and neither we nor Apple can read them. If it's off, they stay only on this phone. The app doesn't separately save them to iCloud Backup or iCloud Drive. You can turn off "Ask Me When They Ask" for your phone number and for your own name in English, date of birth, address and insurance member ID; when it's off, the app only reminds you and doesn't say it for you. Family members' details have no per-item switch; they're said only when you tap Allow each time. When the other person asks for one of these items during a call, the app first asks you on screen whether to tell them, showing whose details it will say, every time. Only after you tap Allow is that sentence made on this phone with the iPhone's built-in English voice (never your Personal Voice), without any speech provider. For your phone number, it says the number in your Meisheng account, which your phone gets directly from the account center and also makes into speech on the phone; the number itself isn't sent to our server. A family member's details are said with that person's English name (for example, "Lan Wang's date of birth is …"), never as yours; if a family member has no English name, their details aren't said. The audio goes through our server into the call and, like everything else on the call, passes through Twilio. Our server doesn't transcribe or keep that audio. On medical and insurance calls: a call about your own matters never uses family members' details; a call about a family member uses only the details of the family member you chose when dialing, who has agreed on the web page, and your own, never another family member's or anyone under 18. We don't store or say things like Social Security numbers, bank card numbers or passwords. If you fill in an address from your phone's location, the location is turned into an address on your phone using Apple's map service and is not sent to us; what you type in an address field is sent to Apple's map service to look up suggestions (see "Emergency (911) address" below) and is not sent to our server either. In a chat, + → Address only puts the address in the text box; you decide whether to send it. When you delete your MeiSheng Call data, part two is deleted too, including the copies synced to your other Apple devices. Because they're in the Keychain, simply deleting the app may not remove them; to remove them completely, delete your MeiSheng Call data first, then delete the app.
Starred contacts. The names, numbers and medical-or-insurance marks you save are stored only on your phone and are never uploaded.
Common Offices. Common Offices in Contacts is a directory of public offices that we compile from each organization's official website; the official website has the final word on numbers and details. What you check or fill in on a Checklist (for example, a letter number, receipt number, account number, A-Number or Medicare number) is kept only on your phone, in the Keychain like part two of My Info, separately for each account (if iCloud Keychain is on, it syncs through your Apple Account; Apple encrypts it end to end, and we can't read it). It is never uploaded to our servers and is deleted when you delete your MeiSheng Call data. The app doesn't store things like Social Security or bank account numbers; it only records whether you checked them. The details page first asks what you want to get done. If you tap a listed task, the documents shown were written in advance from the official website and nothing goes to AI. If you choose Something Else, the sentence you say or type (speech is turned into text by the iPhone's on-device speech recognition; the audio is not uploaded) has numbers masked on your phone first, and is then sent with that office's officially listed tasks and documents through our server to Google's Gemini, only to pick the closest listed task. That sentence is not stored or logged; we only count requests to prevent abuse. When you tap Something Wrong?, the app sends only which office, the time and the sentence you write, not your Checklist or your calls. We don't record who wrote it; the sentence goes into our internal to-do list so we can fix the content, and is then deleted from MeiSheng Call's servers.
Contacts. If you allow it, the app reads your contacts on your phone to let you pick a number and to show names and photos in Recents and Messages (contact photos are used only on your phone, as avatars in chats); when you recommend MeiSheng Call by text, the contact's name becomes a note in your referral list and the number fills in the recipient, both only on your phone. Contacts you create with "+" in the app are saved to your iPhone contacts, the same as creating them in the Contacts app. The names, emails and photos in your contacts are never uploaded or written to our logs; phone numbers are uploaded for comparison only if you allow "Find Friends from Contacts" (see MeiSheng Chat above) and are not kept afterward; a number you actually call passes through our server, like any other call. When you write a text, the recipient's number never reaches us; only the words to be translated do. You can turn this off at any time in iPhone Settings, and the app still works.
iPhone Recents. Calls you make and receive with MeiSheng Call are also listed, like ordinary calls, in Recents in the iPhone Phone app (the number, time and length, marked as MeiSheng Call calls), and tapping one calls back with MeiSheng Call. This list is kept by your iPhone and, if iCloud is on, may sync to your other devices signed in to the same Apple Account. We cannot read it, and deleting your MeiSheng Call data does not remove it; you can delete entries in the Phone app.
Writing texts. The Chinese and English of a text pass through our server and Google's Gemini (in the U.S.) only while being translated. We do not keep them or write them to logs; we only count requests to prevent abuse. You send the text yourself from the iPhone Messages app, from your own phone number, not through us or Twilio. Texts you send through MeiSheng Call (the recipient's number, the Chinese and English, and the time) are kept on your phone so you can look back at them; they are never uploaded, up to 2,000 are kept, you can delete them by swiping left in Messages in the app, and they are deleted when you delete your MeiSheng Call data. When you hold to talk while writing, the iPhone's built-in on-device speech recognition turns what you say into text in the box; your voice is not uploaded or sent to us. Replies arrive in the iPhone Messages app, and we cannot read them.
Photo Translate. A photo you take or pick from your library is read only on your phone, with the iPhone's built-in text recognition; the photo is not uploaded or kept. The text read from it goes through our server to Google's Gemini (in the U.S.) to be translated; it is not kept or written to logs, and we only count translations per day to prevent abuse. This text may include names, addresses, account numbers and policy numbers, and a photo of an insurance card or medical bill may include health information. Text that looks like lab results or medication instructions (for example a prescription label) is stopped on your phone and not sent for translation, and our server checks it again with the same rules before sending anything to Google. If you tap Add to Favorites, only the original and the translation are kept, on your phone; the photo is not kept or uploaded. They are deleted when you delete your MeiSheng Call data.
How we use data
To place your calls, interpret them, show captions, and translate texts you write.
To let you read a call again for 30 days.
To check numbers and follow phone-call and recording laws (the opening message, call limits, the do-not-call list), and to keep records that show we did.
To enforce the daily minute limit and the call limits, give referral rewards, prevent abuse, and track our costs. We automatically look at the counts of each account's calls (how many did not connect, were not answered, or ended with a request not to call again), not at what was said; when something looks unusual, a person reviews it, and if needed we disable the account and end a call in progress.
To answer call traceback requests: when the phone industry's traceback group, the FCC or law enforcement asks who placed a call, we answer within 24 hours as the law requires.
To handle reports, and to report apparent child sexual exploitation to NCMEC as the law requires.
To find and fix problems and measure delay.
We do not use call content for advertising, to train AI models, or for any analysis that is not needed to provide your call. We use health information and ID numbers that come up in calls only to provide the call and the 30-day transcript. Twilio's own uses of call content are described in the next section.
Service providers: what they get, how they use it, and how long they keep it
These companies take part in providing MeiSheng Call. Each one handles data under its own written terms. Under its data processing terms, Google processes data only to provide its service to us. Deepgram and Cartesia process it under the settings described below. Twilio, the phone network, also uses call content for some purposes of its own, described below.
Our servers are in the United States, and we use Google's U.S. locations. Twilio, Deepgram and Cartesia are U.S. companies, and we have not chosen any of their service regions outside the United States. The subcontractors each of them uses are listed on their own websites; some may be outside the United States (for example, for technical support).
Twilio (phone network)
Gets: the audio of both sides as it passes between your phone, our server and the phone network; network information when your phone connects to it (IP address and connection quality); phone numbers and call times; the numbers you dial, to check the line type; and messages left on our company line.
Does: connects calls, carries the audio, checks line types, and tells us whether a person or a machine answered.
Twilio's own use: Twilio's data protection terms say Twilio is an "independent controller" of call content, including voice. That means Twilio decides for itself how to use it, within its terms. Its terms let it use call content to prevent abuse of its services (including training its own models for that purpose), to develop and improve new products and services, and for business analytics and internal reporting. These are Twilio's uses, not ours, and we cannot turn them off in our account.
Keeps: we do not turn on Twilio's call recording for MeiSheng Call calls. Twilio keeps call records (phone numbers, times, length). Its documentation says these can be looked up in its system for 13 months, and the phone numbers in them cannot be deleted during the first 120 days. For number checks, its documentation lists 30 days. Twilio has told us it has no public statement on whether it separately keeps the call audio it carries, or for how long; we have asked in writing and will update this policy when we hear back. Messages left on our company line are recorded and transcribed by Twilio; we delete them from Twilio after 30 days.
Deepgram (speech to text)
Gets: your voice while you hold Talk, and the other side's voice after the opening message.
Does: turns speech into text in real time.
Training: Deepgram's standard terms let it train its models on customer content. Every request we send tells Deepgram not to use the data to improve its models, and its terms say content sent this way is not used for that.
Keeps: under the settings we chose, Deepgram keeps no audio or text after processing. On October 23, 2026, Deepgram told us in writing that for customers who opt out of model improvement, data is processed only in memory and not written to persistent storage; this is in its data processing addendum template, which we are in the process of signing. Deepgram also keeps usage logs, with no audio or text, for 90 days.
Google Cloud (Gemini on Vertex AI; translation)
Gets: the text of what both sides said (also used to tell whether the other person is asking for an item in your My Info; only what they said, this sentence and their previous one, is used, never what you said or your details), phone-menu wording after a person has heard our opening message, the words of texts you write, the words your phone reads from a photo for Photo Translate, and messages between MeiSheng Call users who use different languages, to translate them; and, in calls between MeiSheng Call users, the Cantonese text to be spoken to a Cantonese-speaking user, to turn it into Cantonese speech; and, in Common Offices, the sentence you say or type under Something Else (with numbers already masked on your phone) together with that office's officially listed tasks and documents, to pick the closest listed task.
Does: translates Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese) to English and English to Chinese, picks out phone-menu choices to show as buttons, tells whether the other person is asking for an item in your My Info, and uses Cloud Text-to-Speech to turn the text for a Cantonese-speaking user into Cantonese speech. If Google's main U.S. location has an error, we try again at Google in another U.S. location; we do not send it to another company.
Training: Google's terms say it will not use this data to train or fine-tune AI models without our permission.
Keeps: Google does not store our requests and answers beyond what it needs to answer them, with one exception. If Google's automatic safety checks flag a request, Google may keep it in the United States for up to 90 days, only to check for abuse. Authorized Google employees may look at flagged requests. They are not used for training. Google also has a temporary cache that can hold data for up to 24 hours; we have turned it off. For Cantonese speech (Cloud Text-to-Speech), Google's documentation says it does not log the text or audio it synthesizes.
Cartesia (voice)
Gets: the English text to be spoken: our opening message, the translation of what you say, quick phrases (nothing in My Info is sent to Cartesia; those are made on your phone); and, in calls between MeiSheng Call users who speak different languages, the Chinese translation to be spoken to a Mandarin-speaking user (text for a Cantonese-speaking user goes to Google, above). Text only; it never receives anyone's voice. Chinese and English text is sent only at the moment of synthesis, and we do not keep it.
Does: turns English text (and the Chinese translations described above) into speech.
Training: Cartesia's standard terms let it train its models on what it receives. We turned this off in our account settings.
Human review: Cartesia's terms let it review what it receives and produces, using automated and human checks.
Keeps: On October 23, 2026, Cartesia told us in writing that it has no fixed retention period, deletes data on a customer's request, usually within 90 days, and that its staff access data for maintenance and support. Its data processing addendum applies once the terms of service are accepted at sign-up.
We do not use anyone's voice to identify them, and we do not create voiceprints. On October 22, 2026, Deepgram confirmed in writing that it does not create or keep voiceprints, speaker embeddings or other biometric identifiers from our calls. Cartesia receives only text, never anyone's voice.
We may also disclose data when the law requires it, such as a valid court order, and we report apparent child sexual exploitation to NCMEC as the law requires. Other than that, we do not give data to anyone else.
How long we keep data
Call audio: we do not save it.
Transcripts: 30 days from the end of the call, then deleted automatically. Deleted at once if you delete the call, your MeiSheng Call data, or your Meisheng Account.
Call records: the number you called is deleted after 30 days, together with the transcript. The hashed form of the number (used to warn you when you call the same number again within an hour) is deleted the same day. After that we keep only the call times, minutes and cost, to track costs, until you delete your MeiSheng Call data or your Meisheng Account. Device information is kept the same way.
Which My Info item the other person asked for (for example, "date of birth"; not the content): in our server's system logs, 30 days.
Consent records, family consent records and line-type checks: 4 years. They show that the call followed the law, so we keep them for 4 years even if you delete your account. Deleting your account removes the link to you. A family consent record is kept for 4 years from the latest of its withdrawal, your deletion of your data, or the last consent action, and for as long as any call's consent record still relies on it.
Do-not-call list: 5 years from the request. It holds only the phone number, how and when it was added, and Twilio's ID for the call, if any. Deleting an account does not change the list. See our Do-Not-Call Policy.
Invitation device hash: 1 year. Deleting your account removes the link to you.
Suspension records (when an account is suspended for breaking our terms): kept until the suspension is lifted, even if you delete your data or account, so the account can't simply come back.
Call-pattern alerts (records for staff review when an account has many unanswered or failed outside calls, or many requests not to be called again; no call content): 1 year. They are not deleted when you delete your MeiSheng Call data and stay linked to your account, so we can deal with abuse.
Messages left on our company line: the recording and transcript are deleted from Twilio after 30 days. The transcript emailed to our support inbox is kept for 1 year.
Messages between users: content is deleted once delivered, and within 7 days if not delivered; delivery receipts within 30 days; daily counts of messages and attachments and attachment sizes, 7 days; friend request notes, deleted once handled and within 30 days if not, with records of handled requests kept until either person deletes their data or account; who you have been in touch with, until you delete your MeiSheng Call data or Meisheng Account; the people you block, until you unblock them or delete your MeiSheng Call data or account (a block someone else has placed on you belongs to them and is not deleted when you delete your data); report records (who reported whom and when), 1 year: when you delete your MeiSheng Call data, reports you made are unlinked from you, while reports made about you stay linked to your account for that year so we can deal with abuse; photo and voice ciphertext, like messages, deleted once delivered and within 7 days if never downloaded; IP records, 90 days; materials in a child sexual exploitation case reported to NCMEC, 1 year from the report.
Referrals: your referral code stays with your account and is deleted when you delete the account. A one-time link keeps only the link, the sender, a hash of the sending phone's device ID (to stop self-referrals), which version of the share message was used, the time and who used it; an unused link is deleted 30 days after it expires (links expire after 30 days; links created before the app is on the App Store count from the day it launches). A referral between two people is kept while both accounts exist, for refunds and abuse checks. If the referred person deletes their account, the name they chose is deleted from our server and the referrer sees "Account deleted". If the referrer deletes their account, the referral is deleted; minutes already given to the other person are not taken back. The hashes used to stop abuse, and the real-mobile-number result, are kept for 1 year from when they are created, even if you delete your account sooner.
Records of friends added by QR code (who added whom and when): until you delete your MeiSheng Call data or your Meisheng Account.
Sign-in tokens: expire after 365 days without use.
Backups: our database backups on the server rotate every 14 days, and a second backup copy kept on our company's own computer rotates every 30 days. Data you delete is gone from backups within 30 days.
Deleting your data
Delete This Call (swipe in Recents): deletes that call's transcript from our server right away.
Delete MeiSheng Call Data (Settings): deletes your content only. From our server it deletes your transcripts, call records, device information, 911 address and confirmation record, texts and text translations, family consent links, push registrations, muted-chat settings, records of who you have been in touch with, the people you block, your QR code and records of friends added by QR code, friend requests, daily counts, messages and attachments not yet delivered, and voicemails on your number (including the recordings and transcripts at Twilio). If you have a MeiSheng Call number (a virtual phone number), it is taken back and you no longer have it. It also signs you out on all phones, resets settings such as language and voice, turns off "Phone number" and "MeiSheng ID" in Ways to Add Me, resets "QR Code" (on) and "Require Approval to Add Me" (off) to their defaults, and makes your old QR code stop working. What stays with your account: your account number and account status (for example, whether you were invited, confirmed you are 18 or older, verified a phone number, or were suspended), your minute balance, history and purchase records (including the random account ID we give Apple when you buy minutes), and your referral code and referrals. Sign-up free minutes are given once per account, so you won't get them again if you come back. On your phone, it clears your starred contacts, your Common Offices checklists, your saved Photo Translate results, this account's My Info on this phone, the texts you wrote, your chat history, cached photos of other people and saved English audio (entries in Recents in the iPhone Phone app must be deleted there). Your Meisheng Account and other Meisheng apps are not affected.
Delete Meisheng Account (Settings): deletes all of the above and your Meisheng Account itself. If you have unused minutes you bought, you're asked first to choose: keep them, ask Apple for a refund, ask us for a refund of the unused share (your account is still deleted, and the refund is handled separately), or give them up; if you have only minutes restored by support, you choose to keep them or give them up. Your choice is recorded and kept with the purchase records (for our accounts; see above). If you delete your account in another Meisheng app while you still have unused minutes in MeiSheng Call, you'll be asked to go back to MeiSheng Call and take care of them first. See the Meisheng Account Privacy Policy.
Deleting messages on your phone does not delete copies already delivered to the other person's phone.
Your sign-in credentials and part two of My Info are kept in the iPhone Keychain, so simply deleting the app may not remove them. Signing out deletes the sign-in credentials; My Info is deleted only by Delete MeiSheng Call Data, including the copies synced to your other Apple devices. To remove everything, use Delete MeiSheng Call Data first, then delete the app. For the sign-in and device identifier shared by Meisheng apps, see "Meisheng apps on the same device" in the Meisheng Account Privacy Policy.
Deleting does not remove these before their time is up: consent records, line-type checks, the invitation device hash, the referral abuse-check hashes, reports you made and do-not-call entries (see above; only the link to your account is removed); reports made about you and call-pattern alerts (they stay linked to your account for 1 year); IP records and materials in a case reported to NCMEC (see above); backups that have not yet rotated (up to 30 days); and data a service provider keeps for the time listed above.
After you delete your Meisheng Account, we separately keep your Meisheng Account number, your verified phone number and the time of deletion for 90 days, only to investigate abuse, fraud and nuisance calls and to answer call traceback requests and lawful requests from law enforcement. After 90 days we delete them. During those 90 days, consent records and line-type checks can still be matched to that number; after that, only the unlinked copies described above remain.
To get a copy of your data, to delete an account you can no longer sign in to, or with any privacy question, email support@meishengcall.com. We will reply within 30 days.
If you received a call from MeiSheng Call
One of our users made the call. We provide the app that interprets it.
Calls usually come from +1 520-666-3008 and may show the name "MeiSheng Tech". If you call that number back, you will hear our automated greeting: you can press 9 to stop future calls, or leave a message. It does not reach the user who called you.
We handle your voice as described above, and only after our opening message has finished. If the call was transferred to you, you hear the whole message first. The user who called you can read the transcript for 30 days.
We keep a consent record of the call for 4 years. It contains no conversation text.
To stop future calls, press 9 when you hear "Press 9", or call +1 520-365-0888. See our Do-Not-Call Policy.
For questions about data from a call you received, email support@meishengcall.com with your phone number and the date of the call.
If you are in someone's contacts
When a MeiSheng Call user taps Allow, the phone numbers in their contacts are sent to us once to see who also uses MeiSheng Call. If you are not our user, your number is used only for that comparison: it is not kept, written to logs, sold or used for ads, and we don't use it to identify you or build any record about you. We can't send this notice to you directly, so we explain it here. If you are our user and don't want people who have your number to find you, turn off "Phone number" in Settings > Friend Permissions > Ways to Add Me. Questions: support@meishengcall.com.
If you call MeiSheng Call support
Our company line, +1 520-365-0888, is currently answered automatically: you can leave a message or press 9 to stop future calls. How we handle messages and how long we keep them are described above under "Messages you send us" and "How long we keep data". We do not send support texts at this time.
Texting with the MeiSheng Technology direct line
Our principal's direct line, +1 626-801-0518, can receive your texts but does not send texts. Texts it receives arrive through MeiSheng Call and are translated into Chinese automatically.
We keep your number, the time, and the original and translated text of each message. Message text and translations (no translation when the original is in Chinese) are kept for 30 days from when they are received, or deleted at once if our principal deletes them in the app. Numbers and times are kept like our call records.
Twilio receives the texts. The translation provider listed in "Service providers" above translates them.
This number does not send texts, bulk messages or marketing.
No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging opt-in data and consent will not be shared with any third parties.
Push notifications
If you allow notifications, we use Apple Push Notification service to notify you when you get a text, a voicemail or a message from a MeiSheng Call user. By default, a notification for a text or voicemail shows who it is from and the first few dozen characters of the content (the Chinese translation for texts, the Chinese transcript for voicemails), and those characters pass through Apple's push notification service. MeiSheng Chat messages are end-to-end encrypted, so their notifications say only "MeiSheng Chat: New message", without a name or content, and Apple cannot see them. Friend request notifications say only "MeiSheng Chat: New friend request", without a name or note, at most once in 24 hours for the same person. Notifications also carry the unread count shown on the app icon, which is only a number (see "App icon badge count" above). If you turn off "Show Text in Notifications" under Notifications in Settings, notifications show only who it is from. You can also turn off MeiSheng Call notifications in iPhone Settings, or hide previews on the lock screen.
Health information
Calls to doctors, pharmacies and insurers often include health information. We handle it like all other call content: only to interpret the call and keep the transcript for 30 days. We do not use it for ads or AI training, we do not build health profiles, and we do not sell it. As with all call content, Twilio may use it for its own purposes described above, under its terms. MeiSheng Call is an app for individuals. We do not work for your doctor or insurer, so the federal health privacy law HIPAA does not cover calls you make with it. This policy and our Washington policy explain how we handle this information.
Data travels between the app and our servers over encrypted connections.
Transcripts are never written to our logs.
Only people who need access to run MeiSheng Call can reach call data.
Who can use MeiSheng Call
MeiSheng Call is only for adults (18 or older) in the United States. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If we learn that we have, we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the effective date above. We will point out important changes in the app before they take effect.
